En esta edición 2024, más de 600 trabajos fueron postulados en diversas categorías, destacando el talento y el compromiso de los comunicadores en el uso de tecnologías y formatos digitales para contar historias que resuenen en una sociedad conectada. Los proyectos incluyen reportajes multimedia, crónicas fotográficas, caricaturas y contenido audiovisual, reflejando la diversidad del periodismo digital en el país.
La ceremonia, que se celebrará en el auditorio General Álvaro Valencia Tovar, reunirá a periodistas y nuevos talentos, en una jornada que contará con la participación especial de David Uribe, CTO de Oracle. Uribe, reconocido líder en tecnología, ofrecerá una conferencia sobre inteligencia artificial, análisis de datos y seguridad en medios digitales, explorando cómo estas herramientas están transformando el periodismo.

Como símbolo del premio, los ganadores recibirán la icónica estatuilla Xilópalo, una pieza creada por el escultor Carlos Salas a partir del mineral del mismo nombre. Este peculiar material, un tipo de madera fosilizada que tiene entre 20 y 250 millones de años, representa la evolución del periodismo, desde sus raíces impresas hasta la era digital actual.
Salas describe el Xilópalo como una madera petrificada que, al quedar enterrada a gran profundidad, fue reemplazada por minerales como el silicio, convirtiéndose en un elemento único y resistente. La estatuilla encarna así la permanencia y transformación del periodismo, rindiendo homenaje a quienes se adaptan y evolucionan con la tecnología.
Lo cierto es que, el Premio Xilópalo celebra el talento y compromiso de quienes impulsan el periodismo digital, premiando la innovación y responsabilidad en una era de conexión constante.
