La billetera digital Nequi, perteneciente al Grupo Cibest, se prepara para iniciar una nueva etapa: dejará de operar bajo Bancolombia y se convertirá en una entidad financiera independiente.
El anuncio fue hecho por Juan Carlos Mora, CEO del Grupo Cibest y de Bancolombia, quien confirmó que la transición se realizará durante el segundo semestre de 2026, bajo la figura de Nequi S.A. Compañía de Financiamiento.
“Con la evolución que hemos tenido, el número de usuarios activos y la rentabilidad alcanzada, Nequi está lista para operar de manera autónoma”, explicó Mora durante la presentación de resultados financieros.
Un año récord para el Grupo Cibest
El anuncio llega tras un año histórico para el Grupo Cibest, que reportó ganancias acumuladas de $5,7 billones a septiembre de 2025, con un crecimiento del 23 % frente al mismo periodo del año pasado.
Uno de los hitos más destacados fue que Nequi logró su primer balance positivo desde su creación, alcanzando el punto de equilibrio en septiembre de 2025, antes de lo previsto.
Según Mauricio Botero, vicepresidente financiero del grupo, este logro fue posible gracias a la monetización de servicios como créditos, tarjetas y pagos digitales, además del aumento en usuarios activos, que ya suman 26 millones.
Lo que cambiará (y lo que no) para los usuarios
Nequi aclaró que la independencia no implicará cambios inmediatos en la experiencia de los usuarios. Los canales, servicios y productos seguirán funcionando con normalidad mientras se completan los trámites regulatorios para operar como compañía de financiamiento.
En un comunicado, la empresa explicó que la autorización de la Superintendencia Financiera no significa que Nequi S.A. ya esté operando, sino que comenzará cuando finalicen los procesos técnicos y administrativos necesarios.
“Nos tomaremos el tiempo necesario para garantizar una transición segura y mantener un servicio impecable”, señaló la compañía.
Lo que viene para Nequi en 2026
Con esta transformación, Nequi busca fortalecer su autonomía y ampliar su portafolio de productos financieros, manteniendo su apuesta por la inclusión y la banca 100 % digital.
El Grupo Cibest, por su parte, proyecta que Nequi será completamente rentable en 2026, consolidando su posición como uno de los actores más innovadores del sistema financiero colombiano.
